Pain of foreclosure asks emergency assistance

The foreclosure storm is hitting hard to local residents which makes them panic and in urgent need of help. Nonprofit organizations have started giving hands to help the victims and trying hard to relieve the pain and anxiety of homeowners as much as they can.

The nonprofit institutes are helping foreclosure victims by giving assistance in different areas such as how to reschedule late and remaining payments, how to refinance loans and if someone has already caught in the shaking wave of foreclosure, then they provide guidance to deal with that unfortunate condition.

ACORN Housing of Boston is one of many nonprofit groups that are giving homeowners a way to go forward. Sheila Yancy is the director of this well-known organization which provide free housing counseling to people with low-to-middle income people. She said in an interview , “homeowners are panic with the sinking market, and discouraged to the point that they want to give up. We are handling thousands of cases and every day we receive countless phone calls, emails and in-person visiting.

Other organizations like Brocton Housing Partnership, Neighborhood Housing Services of the South Shore, MassHousing and NID-HCA Phipps are helping homeowners as the ACRON does.

Foreclosures situation is in worst condition since last year when 1,211 houses were closed in the region. This condition is projected across the state with over 7,000 homes were in the list of foreclosure.

Brocton is facing the hardest hit in the region. A report of the Banker & Tradesman, foreclosure tracking institute, shows that 363 houses were foreclosed in Brocton last year. This is the worst hit in the state, more than any other state south of Boston.

Second in the list is Plymouth with 88, Quincy is at 3rd position with 77 followed by Randolph, where 62 homes were foreclosed. Springfield was the hardest-hit community with highest number of 493 foreclosures. Westwood is little fortunate with only one foreclosure in the region.

Over 200 homeowners attended a foreclosure awareness seminar recently conducted at Randolph High school auditorium.

The seminar was organized by US Representative Stephen F. Lynch of the Ninth Congressional District. They arranged short-time meeting of homeowners with counselors who can discuss and arrange follow-up appointment for further guidance. They welcomed people from as far as Rhode Island and Western Massachusetts, but many attendees were local home owners.

Lynch informed one aim of the seminar was to inform and push homeowners to start and ask for assistance early, before they left behind months to catch in the certain foreclosure. He analyzed data collected and estimated that more than 40% people caught in the problems due to major illness issues, such as inability to work for long hours or a sick spouse.

Lisa and Eric Jacobs stands in the real estate market with their $185,000 worth combo in Madrid Square, Brocton. They try to sell it off in order to stop foreclosure on it. They have already paid the big amount of $82,000 in the year of 2000.
