Foreclosure Workshop in Utah
Utah is not exempt when it comes to the overwhelming flush of foreclosures in the housing market. Just in the first quarter of the current year, the foreclosure rate nearly doubled from 0.64 percent of all mortgage loans total, to a staggering 1.02 percent. Just like most states around the country, it is possible for Utah to see a record high of home foreclosures coming in 2009.
The state of Utah is not sitting by watching residents lose their homes in the coming year. They are trying to reach out and educate people on what might be done to save their homes. For example, one program is starting in Salt Lake City today at the Salt Lake Library. The state will join with Salt Lake City to provide a free program called “Sustaining Homeownership: Foreclosure Prevention Training.” The program is free of charge, but participants will have to arrive at the library by 9 a.m. and plan to remain until 1 p.m.
This one-day training program is aimed at people who might be headed into foreclosure in the coming months. The hope is that they can share information that many struggling homeowners may not know about, and potentially save some of them from losing their homes as thousands of others have already done. In addition to getting information, the training program will introduce homeowners to resources they may not know are available to help them. Participants will also be given the chance to talk with accredited nonprofit community agencies that possibly help them find a way through foreclosure. They will also be able to help homeowners who may not be in foreclosure, but who are delinquent on their mortgage loans, or will be delinquent in the near future.
The state of Utah and Salt Lake City are just one of many states stepping up to help millions of Americans struggling to keep a roof over their heads. With the economy taking the most drastic downturn since the great depression and gas prices skyrocketing, many people are unable to keep up with mortgage loans they entered into when economic times were much better. Many homeowners were also victims of prime and interest-only mortgage loans which have now caught up to them and the big lenders who gave them the loan.
There are some resources out there that can help these homeowners get back on track or even negotiate better terms with their lenders, but many people do not know where to go for assistance. Programs such as this one in Salt Lake City are popping up in most major cities to help people get in touch with the proper agencies and even financial counselors who are trained to deal with these severe issues.
It is likely these agencies and counselors will be able to guide homeowners on how to save their home from becoming foreclosed homes, but there is no doubt that many more families will lose their homes before this is all over with.
